The Carpinteria Valley Water District will begin flushing the water distribution system (pipes) this year in October and continue through December. Hours and days of flushing are Monday – Thursday from 9:30 pm – 4:00 am Why do water mains need to be flushed? This annual maintenance program is done to ensure a high level of water quality by removing sediment (mostly iron and manganese) that has built up over the years. The pipes are cleaned by forcing water through them at high velocities. Flushing removes the sediment that can cause the water to appear dirty or discolored. How will flushing affect my service? Your water service will not be interrupted while the pipes are flushed. After work has been done in your area you may need to run taps for 5 - 15 minutes until the water is clear. This can be done by flushing a tap in the front of the house first until clean water appears then flush the taps in the back of the house. The last step should be to run faucets in the house. Do not run loads of laundry until water discoloration is absent. Avoid doing any loads of laundry during the flushing hours in the affected areas How will I know what areas will be affected? The District will have signs posted in the affected areas. The Carpinteria Valley Water District’s goal is to provide water that consistently meets all the State and Federal Health Standards. We want to assure our customers that any affects will be temporary. Your water may appear discolored for a short period of time, keep in mind that this is a temporary aesthetic condition and not a health risk.
If your water does not clear up after running hose bibs for 5 - 15
minutes please call the Water District office at (805) 684-2816 (8am to
5 pm, Monday to Friday) so that we may assist you. |
